UP 1982, SD40N and BNSF in Anaheim on UP
Author: MP184

So far in 2021 I've caught a few out of the ordinary visitors at the UP Anaheim facility on S Adams St
1 and 2 On January 10th the UP Missouri Pacific heritage unit 1982 was laying over after arriving on the Anaheim Hauler.
3. On Superbowl Sunday February 7th 3 BNSF units were parked in the engine track.

4. The UP local power sharing the engine track with the BNSF visitors
5. BNSF 7762 with 3744 and 7759 after dark
6. The reason I visited Anaheim Superbowl Sunday was the report of former Missouri Pacific, SD40N with out dynamic brakes in Anaheim. The third unit in the Anaheim hauler power set was UP 2043 ex MP SD40-2 3229.

Very nice shots. I used to live in the area and driving by was a daily event I loved to see what made it's way down there. Now that I live in Yorba Linda I almsot never make it over there. Any idea why all the power was there with the BNSF units?

I don’t know why UP would use BNSF power on the Anaheim Hauler. With all the power available at West Colton you would think they would use power with the UP name on it. It’s been years since I’ve seen a SD40-2 in Anaheim. I don’t know how much the rebuilt SD40-2s roam around Southern California this is the first time I’ve seen one outside of West Colton. I hope who ever is making the power decisions continues to send surprises to Anaheim and I’m lucky enough to see them. It’s nice to encounter some variation with so much uniformity today.
