Western Railroad Discussion > Norden Sheds. Out of the Cold and Into the, well, ColdDate: 02/19/21 16:54 Norden Sheds. Out of the Cold and Into the, well, Cold Author: BoilingMan #5 at Norden this morning.
I wanted to give a little better sense of the place with a wider view. The track to the far left is the original Track 1, the CPRR route to tha Summit. Today it ends not much further than you can see here. In the center, where the tank car is spotted, was the lead to the now gone turntable. #5 is on the 2 Track, coming up from Tunnel 41 (The Big Hole). The track beside him was originally the 2 Track's siding, but is now the 1 Track down as far as the single track Tunnel 41. SR And no, it's not much warmer in here than it is out there! Out of the Cold and Into the, well, Cold Author: KM-ML4000 I remembr as a kid in the 1970s visiting my uncle, who sometimes worked as the Norden Operator, and having a blast exploring the sheds and the many man ways and passages in the complex.

RC Lundgren Elgin, TX Date: 02/21/21 14:49 Re: Norden Sheds. Out of the Cold and Into the, well, Cold Author: dmaffei That place was the "coolest" to visit in the 70s. Wish Sandy was there to "OS" the train like the old days. Thanks for bringing back some good memories...
Date: 02/21/21 17:42 Re: Norden Sheds. Out of the Cold and Into the, well, Cold Author: BoilingMan Yes, I remember Sandy. Back in those days she and the other operators were generally quite helpful with line up info. I never really hung out in the office- it wasn't very big and I felt like my being there was too distracting and noisy. I didn't want to be responsible for a missed radio call or whatever.
But those were the days, eh? SR Date: 02/21/21 23:05 Re: Norden Sheds. Out of the Cold and Into the, well, Cold Author: ShoreLineRoute Does this operator office still exist physically?
Oliver Barrett Date: 02/21/21 23:21 Re: Norden Sheds. Out of the Cold and Into the, well, Cold Author: BoilingMan No. Completely removed and the wall patched over. You’d all but need a map, or someone who knew where it was, to identify its location.
SR IACN, eh Bob? |
