Western Railroad Discussion > WSOR daylight fun on the Monroe SubDate: 02/22/21 06:44 WSOR daylight fun on the Monroe Sub Author: RSD5 Last Saturday, the Wisconsin and Southern ran an extra train to Monroe, WI during daylight hours. The L355 job normally runs Tuesday night, Thursday night and Sunday morning so an extra train on a bright, sunny morning was a bit of a treat. Especially when it headed back east in near perfect lighting. There are only two rail served customers in Monroe. Badger State Ethanol and Bard materials (seasonal sand and gravel) . BSE is WSOR's largest customer and recently completed a two track addition to their yard (additional 50 car capacity). The inbound train was around 50 cars (grain and empty tanks) and the outbound train was 11 cars of dried distillers grain and ethanol loads. This extra train really peaked the southern Wisconsin railfan network. There were at least 10 guys out shooting images.
Image 1 The crew has dropped off the second cut of cars and is heading back to the east side of the yard to assemble the outbound train. The longest track at BSE holds about 25 cars, so long trains have to be doubled into the yard. We have about two feet of snow on the ground and finally had a day above zero yesterday. For the past two weeks, it has been brutally cold with temps in the negative 22 range every night.
