Some of this and that, Part II.
Author: SP8100

In Ritzville's thread this afternoon ( https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5203971 ), he saw a few interesting trains that came by his place and had alerted me to them headed my way.

For those who don't know, I live by the BNSF Lakeside Sub as well.  I'm just closer to Spokane than Larry is.  I can venture to the ex-GN line from Seattle via Wenatchee to Spokane in about 20 minutes versus the 45-60 minute drive for Larry.  Larry and I correspond when we (I) can as Larry is retired..    If a train doesn't have to wait for a meet, MOW, etc., it takes on average 75 to 90 minutes to go from my location to Ritzville.  Amtrak #27 & #28 are the fastest at about a little over an hour..  I would say 65 minutes..

Well, here is what I caught around Cheney, Washington.

Under cloudy skies this morning, first train as I got to Cheney, Washington was on main #1 heading eastbound which is NOT the normal routing BNSF dispatchers use for road trains thru Cheney as it is 6.5 mile double track CTC.  As it was not the normal time for BNSF Lind turn on the Lakeside Sub, I was correct in it being an empty 4 Lakes grain train being piloted by the Washington Eastern Railroad (WER) to the faciltiy from the west side of the state.

#1)  BNSF 7423 is heading railroad west on the WER at MP 1.85 with BNSF 5382 that looks like a recent repaint into the 'skidmark' scheme, 116 empties and BNSF #8386 as the DPU obediently behind the 7423.

#2)  A closer look at the BNSF 5382 that is very clean to other locomotive units I have seen lately..

#3)  An eastbound BNSF empty grain train spliting the intermediate signals west of Cheney, Washington with 6705 on the point with 6888 following and 4387 as the DPU of the 116 car train.

More to follow.

#4.)  BNSF 4687 acclerating out of the 35 mph permanent restriction passing MP 17.

#5.)   BNSF 4687 lead seven BNSF locomotives of all sorts of designations.  ES44C4T4, ES44DC, ES44C4, C44-9W were mixed in.
Leader was BNSF 4687, BNSF 3771, heritage one BNSF 961, BNSF 8175, BNSF 5435, BNSF 7294, BNSF 5374 & BNSF 688 as Larry said that 688 is the caboose bringing up the rear.  I was caught off guard as I knew I had a northbound UP coming, but I didn't think this guy would beat the UP to were I was at.

#6.)  A going away shot of all eight units with the rear headlight on 688 displaying a marker as required.

I will continue this thread in the next couple of days as I have a few more train photos to post.

Nice series SP8100! How did you keep the snow on the front of those units in 40+ degree weather. lol. I also corrected my H1 number on the 994, thanks! Looks like some snow tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the heads-up alerts.

Larry

Thanks Larry!!!    I think it was still the in mid 30's when I shot the 7423 going to 4 Lakes..  I talked with the WER pilot and he said the BNSF crew that brought it up said it was way worse when they boarded at Pasco!!!

Your welcome..  I have a few more trains to document, but it is getting late for me and I work tomorrow.

So you caught the 7423 as an empty heading into the 4 Lakes elevator?

Anyways, caught it departing Pasco about 1100 and the 5382 really looked good in the sun

One set of pictures for tonight, then I will have to finish in the next few days,.

#7)  A stack train that is bound for Tacoma (S-STPTAC) rounding the curve just east of MP 19 on the BNSF Lakeside Sub.  BNSF locomotives 6507 and heritage one 994 are sole power on this one.  Larry, I noticed the mix of lead unit numbers in picture #3 and #7..   LOL!!!

#8) The next westbound is a westbound grain train passing MP 17 with the BNSF 5123 and BNSF 3830 with BNSF 3891 as the rear DPU.  If you notice, the skies are getting a little brighter than the first seven pictures..

#9)  GACX 75506 looks like a recent patch job.  I have seen a few of these cars lettered for BNSF in the past.
