High Speed Amtrak race during triple meet at Westmont, IL in 2004

One of my luckiest railroad meets took place back in the Spring of 2004. While filming in Westmont, IL, I captured an eastbound BNSF freight followed by two Amtrak trains sprinting nose to nose westbound out of Chicago. I believe these trains were the Southwest Chief & Illinois Zeypher. I've seen quite a few meets over the years but nothing else quite like this.

What a thrill that must have been!
Sometimes while taking video or photographs, it is hard to resist putting the camera down and enjoying the assault on your senses. What an awesome display of power.. .

It’s happened before and the video is around the internet somewhere if you search. In the 90’s a lady crossed the tracks thinking there was only one train but a commuter lead by a BN E9 got her.

What would this kind of triple meet/overtake technically be called I wonder?

I'll have a triple meet with double overtake on the side (To Go) please!😃

There is a great video on YouTube from 1994. The CB&Q E5 and Nebraska Zephyr set were either going to or coming from Galesburg Railroad Days and they were on the double track near Mendota. It was in the process of overtaking a trackage rights SP intermodel. I always wondered what the SP guys thought of a 1940 engine blowing by them at 79.
