Talgo Series 6.....last time in SEATTLE
Author: Texican65

My engineer Tim, had been wanting to get photos of the talgos sitting at King street over the last 6 months...but the opportunity just never materialized. As soon as i read the post about them headed for the scrapper...he made sure that very night to give them some attention. The night shots are this past Saturday a.m., when they were supposed to leave originally that morning..before they had electrical issues. We tied up at 0230, and Tim went over there directly.

The day shots are courtesy of his father, who was in Seattle Sunday morning to see them off properly. We would have liked to attend, but we were out of town on a train....boo....

Thanks to Tim and Dave Peck for these great photos....

Quite a shame to see them go.  A little off topic, but that's an interesting Sounder Cab Car.  Who built it?

The are being scrapped because the NTSB found that they didn't perform to standards in the Dupont crash.  While no federal agency requires them to be scrapped, the Washington State DOT is getting rid of them because they are now a public relations and liability time bomb.  If anyone so much as broke a toe in one of these cars, in a future accident, WSDOT would be in hot water for still using them.  Unfortunately, they don't have much choice.

This rider thinks they ride roughly,  and is glad to see them go.

Bombardier built it, it's the newest version of the cabcar.

Standards they invented. FRA issues the regulation and found the Talgo equipment to be just fine.

Thanks for helping that along, NTSB.

I noted oen thing whan we shot them leav ing Portland.  I see from photos the two sets were the Mount Baker first, then the Hood River second, but the two end cars in the middle were the Mt Baker and the Mt Olympus, or was it Mt Olympic!  Alas, not one of my photos show the pair clear enough to verify my vision!

Anyone else notice?

On the second car, one end unit wore “Mt. Olympus” and the other end unit wore “Mt. Hood”.
