Terrence, great photos.  I've tried to get in that area for years, unsuccessful.  Even in the days of steam.
Will we see photo 2 or 3 on next years UP calendar?

Wonderfull location. As I could see in Google, these tunnels were abandonned.  Why?

Wow...that is great. I found many pics of abandonned tunnels when search for Echo canyon. Nice to know these still in use. Thanks.

Yes, these are still in use.
The mainline on top is the wesbound and the original route of the transcontinental railroad.
The bottom mainline was the newer eastbound track.
The westbound had a much steeper grade and the eastbound was a lesser compensated grade.
So when the trains left Evanston they were running right handed until Curvo where they switched to left handed.
This way the steeper grade was downhill and easier to handle than westbound traffic on it.
However, in recent years they CTC's and then PTC's this trackage so either track is subject to trains in either direction.
Hmmm,Visions of UP steam pulling a freight up up the south track (steeper).

So, is this a kind of flyover through tunnels?

Well, UP got the marketing photo right:  one engine pulling about 4 reefer loads.  That's about right when I see how many reefers are in UP trains today!
