Western Railroad Discussion > UP (ex-SP) in OregonDate: 03/01/21 21:47 UP (ex-SP) in Oregon Author: rails_etc Hi everyone! I'm trying to get a picture of what UP's operations look like on the old SP in Oregon now, and I think I pretty much have it, but there are some lingering questions. I'd appreciate any assistance with corrections to the below, and any informations on "scheduled" times if you have them!
The questions: Which trains (if any) are doing block swap work at Eugene and Klamath Falls? Is any train currently working Gilchrist Junction? Are any locals operating out of Klamath Falls? How many helper sets are working out of Oakridge, and what symbol are they using? PORTLAND IBRLC MPDRV MPDWC MPDEU (with work at Clackamas and Salem) SALEM LIA42 Salem-Canby LIA43 Salem-Halsey EUGENE MEUPD (work at Millersburg, Salem, and Clackamas) MPWWC LIW44 Eugene-Springfield CALIFORNIA MRVPD MWCPT MWCEU ZLCTM ...what an anemic list it is these days. Of course, this doesn't account for the grain trains. Also, moving away from the SP territory, is LID44 still handling the Hinkle-The Dalles turn? Which trains work Hood River and Pendleton? For now the LIA42 goes to Canby once a week on Sunday with up to 30 cars for the OPR. They also go to Woodburn at least one day a week to switch a couple of industries there. Dick Samuels Date: 03/02/21 19:05 Re: UP (ex-SP) in Oregon Author: op11 There are 2 sets of power at Oakridge; 2 units each for rearend helpers; when a grain train comes they hook the 2 sets together and are 4 midtrain helpers----- usually put them on at Lookout---- one siding north {west] of Oakridge. When unit crude trains run the same; but none of them around since covid. Baring no problems or long waits for meets; the rear end sets make a shove to Cascade Summit and are back in Oakridge in roughly 4 hours--- maybe a bit less. Heavy grain trains a little longer.David.---- oh, and they hook the rear end helpers on right there at Oakridge

Three untis on south end so I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that it was a load going to California, and thereby, I had forgotten to report it for the fans to the south. My bad! A double bad! Robert |
