SP on the Modoc Line, 1993
Author: RJM29

An eastbound SP train drops into Wendel, California late in the afternoon of 7 April 1993. Six units have brought the train down the Modoc Line,  SP 8339, SSW 9659, SP 8379, SP 8014, GATX 7350 and SP 6872. The last three will be dropped in Wendel to help the next westbound on its trip to Klamath Falls.

How much of the line is missing, mileage-wise? I am a patriot and want t restore all abandoned railroads. What needs to be done to re-store this? Thanks for all input.

This post says 110 miles of rail is missing, or maybe they mean 220 miles of rail, or 110 miles of 'track'. Or...
Anyways the topic comes up every so often.

Love the pics. I've always wanted to find some videos of when UP had to do a lot of modoc detours due to flooding in the cascade and feather river lines, but I'll take these to keep me going :)

Second is a classic.  Notice someone relaxing in the 4th unit, too.  Roadbed looks pretty good too.   SP used to run an EUCHQ symbol for awhile as they were having trouble getting those PNW lumber trains over the road, was taking over 10 days to get to Chicago, even using the shortcut.  Amazing how fast time blows by.

Helpers are on the point. "relaxing" is the road engineer
