UP Valley - Lincoln Throwback
Author: twjurgens

We saw power on the LNV46 (Valley, NE to Lincoln) yesterday that we haven't seen in ages!  It was led by GP38-2 827 and SD60 2196.  According to RR Picture Archives, 827 is ex MP 2327 and the 2196 was built as UP 6041.  Engines like this were common on this local until about 3 years ago so seeing them again now is unusual.  They're definitely showing their age!

This isn't a high speed train so staying ahead of it wasn't a problem.  There seems to be lots of less than 20 mph track on this line yet.

The first shot is about a mile south of Valparaiso and the second just south of Agnew.  The clouds look good in a photo but are a pain if they happen to be between you and the sun!  Oh well, a bad shot is better than no shot.

The third shot is a mile south of Raymond.

The fourth is at the West McKelvie Road crossing north of Lincoln.  The last 2 are near the airport in Lincoln.

In the 9 years I lived back there and using that route to Lincoln many times a month I never saw a train! As to that power, looks
like it's headed for the auction!

I'm a bit confused.  UP Valley - Lincoln, Lincoln is the next town north of Roseville on the UP Valley Subdivision.  Not quite sure where you are at.

In the last two photos I just love the difference in the red ballast and the jointed rail on the old "Q" mainline to Seward.

"Throwback", indeed! If ya squint just right, the 827 becomes a GP-30. Sorta...
