Metrolink Action with Rail Train Burbank Two Weeks Ago
Author: erielackawanna

I managed to shoot the Metrolink rail train at CP Katz in Burbank back on April 7 from the Buena Vista crossing (it was in the Coast Siding), as well as getting it being passed by Metrolink trains 118 and 121. Don't really get out to shoot the Metrolinks much these days with the pandemic schedules as not only are there fewer trains, but even if you wait for them, you end up shooting the same equipment. That being said, it was nice to be out there shooting again and the pair of F59s on the rail train added to the festivities.

First two images are the rail train by itself.

Third image is the train being passed by the inbound 118 with an F125 Spirit locomotive.

Fourth image is of one of the Boise Rocket MP36PH-3Cs pulling train 121 past the rail train. Just read that Metrolink is now recommending that they do not do a mid-life rebuilds on these, but rather scrap them and buy more Tier IV engines (even dual power diesel and electric power like New Jersey Transit has). We shall see.

Great images.  Fun to see that old ICG caboose still in use for its intended purpose.
For several years it was only used on the Santa trains, there just were no work trains.
I've been gone from SCRRA for 15 years, some of the rail we installed new is  probably worn out by now.

Great photos, Charles.  The hills above Burbank make for some nice tele backdrops.
