GM partnering with Wabtec for electric freight locomotives

There's a lot of irony here ...

Well, ok, it's more a fuel cell system but still interesting nonetheless.

What a hoot, 22 mil for stuffing a bunch of batteries in a locomotive which already had electric traction motors. And
the BS about the fuel saving just doesn't pencil out, the laws of physics aren't on the PR department's side. But, the
partnership with GM at least shows that Wactec is headed in the right direction. A "clean" system with new 210 ton
all electric freight locomotives and catenary would clean all right, clean out the bank! We need a large scale effort
to develop hydrogen sources whcih could produce at econmically viable rates. Just my opinion.

Maybe they need to dust off the plans for the EMD electrics they made for PC way back when. They seemed to work great back then. ------Ken

The hydrogen thing has been poking around for years mostly searching for money nothing seems to ever come from it. Now there seems to be a direct push to get things on the road or rails which ever might be the case. Plenty of talk not much action.

Not the case in Europe where hydrogen power on the rails is progessing rapidly.
