High Flying Concrete in Idaho
Author: funnelfan

There are several new bridges going up over the tracks in Kootenai County in north Idaho. The new interchange between Hwy 53 and Hwy 95 was completed last year and replaced a older bridge over the UP Spokane Sub (ex-Spokane International). Now Garwood Rd is getting a bridge over both the UP tracks and Hwy 95 just a mile north of Hwy 53. A couple miles to the northeast of the Garwood Rd bridge, Ramsey Rd is getting a bridge over the BNSF (ex-NP) and Diagonal Rd. And Hwy 41 south of Rathdrum already has one new bridge over the UP, and a second one will soon go up as Hwy 41 is rebuilt as a divided Hwy. Further west in Washington, work has just started for building a bridge over the BNSF at Barker Rd and Trent Ave (Hwy 53).

North Idaho used to be a nice, rural, beautiful area - now it's turning into your typical metropolitan area.

Thinking that as well, not sure what to think of it.

Check out the overpass design, includes the latest ideas in avoiding collisions, X-style left turn pattern for on / off ramps and the roundabout to the right.
Makes ya wonder.

Wonder if the self-driving electric vehicles will like it better with the CAD'd puzzles--kinda reminds me of double-slip switches

It's funny how Idaho is ahead of big, ole Washington State in using those X-style freeway off/on ramps (I-84 through Boise was rebuilt with many of these); it's obviously a concept Washington State highway department hasn't quite figured out yet.  However, Washington State REALLY LOVES their roundabouts, they seem to be the answer to everything!!!
