UP Derailment
Author: Bob3985

I just had a call from a friend who told me there is a 15 car derailment at Hillsdale Wyoming.
No particulars at this time.

Derailments seem to be  up on the UP, so it seems anyway.

Wow, so you have first hand authoritative facts and know without a doubt the cause is PSR.

May all your humble subjects bow down to you.

There was a derailment at Mannix, CA last week, a big one between Tucson-El Paso a few weeks ago, and now this one. Is it PSR who knows, but something is definitely wrong. Have you tried to run one of these unmanageable long trains that are running these days? Trains that not that long ago were not allowed under train make up rules for years, and now they are OK. The train make up is without a doubt PSR  Its fact derailments are up, and locomotives failures are up. Locomotive maintenance is divinely on a downward spiral.

Plus uncle Pete has laid off half of the mechanical in M-OF-W people and is still closing inspection n repair location. Screw safety in small customers, our stockholders need a new summer house.

Do any of you brain surgeons have any comparative factual statistics of the before and after number of derailments of PSR?
We have had many derailments before this.  How does it factually compare?

I'm not gonna comment on the cause of the derailment, but am gonna mention that many people from all areas of North Platte were laid off, in addition to the experienced track crews (as has already been mentioned).

As to the train that derailed, info from a friend. The train was the North Platte to North Yard, 3 locomotives pulling 111 loads and 42 empties, and was 16,451 tons, 8,758 feet. 3x153x0

Regarding North Yard he's referring to North Yard, Denver, CO.

I believe the FRA does. Are you asking a rhetorical question? As you of all people,I’m sure you know how to look that up.

Stuff this in your IT closet and read it, you just might be enlightened since you apparently missed your basic physic classes.     https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,5274570

Ain't that the truth!  Must make him feel tough...  Particularly since the person making the so-called PSR claimed said "IT SEEMS", which would, SEEM, to mean that he was only making a guess for discussion, no where saying that he has actual proof of this.

Looks like UP is doing more "lab experiments" again. Let's see how much we can push before things break. You can only blame the Wall St. idiots so much.

Here's an example of an ex-CEO who pre-emptively implemented safety measures WITHOUT data to back him up. It seems off topic, but it isn't if people take safety seriously:

https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,5272904

Amtrak ex-CEO Richard Anderson decided to ban people from riding on back platforms, even though there was no data saying people got hurt doing it. Doesn't matter if the root of his decision was purely financial (airline industry: unsafe = huge financial loss). He took safety seriously.

You mentioned elsewhere you pulled the pin as a railroader. Glad you don't have to deal with safety hypocrisy from the C-suite anymore.
