Donkey Business (SoCal)
Author: cchan006

On Monday (Labor Day), I was having a mini EMD bonanza, with an eastbound SD70AH-T4-led all EMD stack train, BNSF light engine within West Colton Yard with a SD70MAC leader, and West Colton Yard job with 3x Snoot SD40-2s elephant style.

Instead, it's about donkeys because that's what I ran into in Redlands when I chased the SD70AH-T4 (UP 3023). Seems while NorCal relies on goats for "weed abatement", SoCal might be relying on donkeys.

- Power for the West Colton to Barstow manifest with SD70MAC.

- Donkeys and mid-train DPU (also EMD, SD70ACe).

- Video of SD70AH-T4 leader, SD40-2s elephant style, and donkey style.

That's it for the quick report.

Nice Charles. I'd love to see three or four of those together like that on Donner!

Those donkeys seem unphased by all of that, unlike cows and horses.

Just don't "harass" them, they're protected. There's another big bunch of them up in Reche Canyon between Loma Linda and Moreno Valley.

Good stuff Charles! I was a few miles north of you that morning.

We spotted BNSF 8838 on a westbound stacker at Bealville CA (on Tehachapi) on August 28.  (fourth unit, see photo)  - Eric B.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah, they definately aren't railfans, as they didn't even turn around and look at the train... :(

Neat pictures of the Donkeys, Charles.  I saw them too on Monday, but passed by as I was following a westbound out of the canyon to get a pic by the palm trees of his DP set (from my post the other day about the utility poles on flatcars).

Donkeys In Ritchie Canyon, along road with same name, no trains though.

Darned if I knew the donkeys are also in San Timeteo canyon too!
