Unplanned escape from the house...

...against my (weak) will

The inbound text message said: “UP 1943 leading ILBG3-10, called Herington 10:10...” I had planned to buckle myself down and get a few million past-due chores done. For example, I’ve got a line-up of PMs that would choke a train DS. And there’s so much more...

But the thought of chasing a predominantly silver engine in overcast weather stirred up all sorts of color-enhancing ideas in Photoshop. Here’s a quick result below. Maybe I’ll photo-edit the whole chase. But it won’t be right away! I’ve still that ‘million chores’ to do, ya know... ;^)

1. UP 1943, the Armed Forces heritage unit leads train ILBG3-10 at Calhoun Bluffs NE of Topeka, KS on September 14, 2021.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Great shot! What kind of steps did you take in photoshop?

Nothing real fancy. With a uniform overcast sky (no cloud detail) I knew I could really lighten up the image. I normally shoot a bit on the dark side to get better depth of field, so lightening was a natural move anyway. About the only thing I did different was to nearly double my usual normal amount of color saturation. I knew that would be OK because it was a silver engine against a drab overcast sky. A bit of cropping, resizing & sharpening and you now see the result...

Hey Lance and fellow trainorders.com community, does 1943 signify a year?
Cause I looked up the year 1943 events but couldn't find a particular one that stood out.
Thank you.

Here's a link that might help:  UP: Union Pacific Unveils Commemorative Locomotive Honoring U.S. Armed Forces

UP and its employees purchased a bomber with war bonds in 1943.  The plane was unfortunately shot down over Germany.
