Several years ago a post noted there was a sulpher plant in Eustace TX that had closed, the only customer on the branch running to there from Athens. It was noted due to changes in the energy markets. https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4041284,4041284#msg-4041284

I drove through Athens today and the branch appears intact, but couldn't tell if it was active or not - rails did not appear shiny. Is the branch dead for good or is there any traffic out of that plant these days or potentially in the future? TIA

Hard to say dead for good, but no trains there in the past 5+ years as the plant is closed.

We used to feel the heat coming off the sulphur trains as they passed the Tyler depot.

Start a Hand Car Ride or a Speeder Trail like Todd and Mason have done.
See above posts.
