30+ year old 48’ DTTX single-well stacker still earning its pay
Author: MrMRL

Most of 'em have either been chopped up to bits, or chopped down to 40' lengths for the lower container. But this rare 48' survivor of a bygone era popped up earlier Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2021) in Los Angeles on the BNSF, complete with its original old-school 5 digit number.

DTTX 56175, class of August 1991.

*edit*
Heh, I was about to start the 1st grade in August 1991...

I'd like to see them 48' boxes to put in them in 2021!

A lot of former BN 48 foot, 3-pack, well cars in the Pacific Northwest hauling garbage containers, and they even still have the trailer hitches on them for use with trailers (though it's been decades since those hitches have been used).

While at CSX Intermodal, we had a couple of packer operators that had a 'good eye' on putting a 48 foot 3-banger bucket car with hitches to use...he'd put 53 foot TRAILERS in them!  The key was to use only the 2 end cars and the trailer noses stuck out over the couplers.  The rear overhang of the trailers prevented using the middle bucket as the hitches were on the 'far' ends of the end cars.  I heard that both of them left the contractor company they were working for after I retired.
