A few trains around Austin, Texas...
Author: atx_railfan

I've been able to find some time to sneak in some railfanning recently on the Austin Sub, so here's an assortment of pics from the last month or so.

1+2) A lone NS ES44AC leads the GREX conveyor rock train through downtown Austin

3) A UP rock train passes the downtown Amtrak station

4) Always trying to find new angles to shoot in this stretch of downtown, one of the few parts of the Austin Sub with decent afternoon lighting for northbounds. Here's a manifest behind a lone AC44, unfortunately just after the sun went behind the clouds.

5) At some point over the last two years, UP started running the Taylor local south of McNeil regularly. Unfortunately, this one doesn't have the GP60s and SD40-2s of the New Braunfels local, but these SD70Ms are probably nearing the end of their lifespan given the PSR craze over AC traction as of late. Here's Local 21 in South Austin, near Bouldin Creek.

thanks for viewing!

Thanks for posting these, we don't see much from the Austin area.  The juxtaposition of contemporary inner city buildings with the railroad that predates these glass condos by over a hundred years is fascinating.  Nice pics!

All are excellent compositions.  Most especially like Photo 3.

Like others have commented, it's nice to see pictures from Austin. Gives me some ideas for things to do if I ever go there.
