booby prize
Author: z-trains

Railfans seem to be crazy about the second generation EMD power that the Trona Railway runs but little attention is paid to a similar operation just outside of Victorville, CA known as the Mojave Northern.  This railroad makes multiple rounds trips between the mine and the processing plant on a daily basis often times led by this castoff UP SD60.  While the scenery is not up to the standards of the Pinnacles outside of Trona, CA, scenes such as this one certainly argue that this railroad should be on anyone’s bucket list.  Here we have the afternoon run from the mine at White Rock Mountain climbing up to the railroad’s summit just west of I-15 on September 2, 2021.

Very nice composition. Do you know if the old blue SD40-2 no. 415 still operates sometimes?

I love the shot! I assume there's more opportunities along this line to shoot as well?

Great perspective and location.  Really shows the vertical curve of that line.

Nice work, that is a fun line to shoot. I'm curious as well if the exSP T-motor (rebuilt into something closer to an SD40-2) is still on the property.

CEMEX plasters their name and logo on just about everything they own.

Quite a few locations along the relatively short line, for both eastbounds and westbounds.

It's on the property and gets out and about intermittently - do a search on TO, it was running last March (2021) and there are photos...

And why wouldn't they?  It is their property.
