Throwback
Author: z-trains

…not throwaway.  So much of what we know and remember disappears in our disposable society.  Train locomotives are no different.  Thank goodness for museums like SoCal Railway Museum not only preserving locomotives such as this Santa Fe FP45 but also keeping them running to allow us all to take a step back in time.  Here we have this fabulously painted ATSF showpiece posing for a night photo shoot in April 2021 in Perris, CA with a group of museum volunteers in period costume recreating a scene that people almost certainly thought would always be part of railroading.  Nowadays, it’s all about PTC, trip optimizers, and company issued iPads!

And according to the latest Railfan & Railroad issue they are getting Ex Santa Fe SD45-2 5704 and plan to restore it and paint it Bicentenial colors.
