Burlington, Illinois is east of Rockford on the former IC line Chicago to Iowa.

Really cool shot. Wasn’t there a passing siding in Burlington? Was that town building an IC station?

There is a passing side east of Burlington that starts just behind where Bob is standing.

Yes, this train went into siding which made shooting easier, waiting for M-338 which is road train to Waterloo.  Show at siding signals east of this location, BD unit is in trees to left.

There was post of station days past elsewhere which the was taken down but looks like it went back into IC days.  The later IC stations were very spartan but some at least were replacements of early stations.

Burlington station is a standard IC Type B depot, one of dozens just like it built to replace earlier depots constructed in the late 1800's.   The Type B design was very efficient, construction -wise - besides being a standard plan, it also re-used some of the lumber from the depot is was replacing, an early example of lumber recycling.
