UP Gensets On The Move?
Author: tronarail

My friend shot these images of a couple of either ex-UP Gensets (or maybe they're currently active) on this UP freight train in Bakersfield this afternoon. I haven't been following the Genset scene for some time now, and I thought I read that these once popular and fuel-saving locomotives were being shunned by the Class 1's now for a variety of reasons. Any ideas on these units futures or where they might be from or going to?

There are 3 or 4 sitting in Roseville for the last couple of months.  I wonder if they're ever going to move.

They went by the Tehachapi Depot railcam at 03:52 this morning, behind the three UP lead units.

Different group. Those are UPY 894 & 895. They are still UP owned, but have been out of service for about a year pending disposition.

Dang,

Didn't realize they've been there for a year.  Thanks.
