Requiem for the Park Street Cutoff
Author: NickWolters

Central California Traction 1501 and 2101 trundle southward down the mainline, treading along the side of Wizard Avenue. The hopper on the right was dropped off by an early morning BNSF job for interchange with the Stockton Terminal & Eastern.

Of historical relevance, CCT's onetime "Park Street Cutoff" veered from the principal right of way just a stone's throw from where this photo was made. The trackage ran down the heart of Park Street, singlehandedly providing entry for CCT into the WP yard. Eventually Stockton city leaders demanded the Traction Company phase out the Park Street branch amid growing frustrations amongst motorists. The Park Street Cutoff faded away in 1968 and Traction Company traffic destined for the WP was reassigned to ST&E's Roosevelt Street segment.
