Scores of guns stolen from trains cause more problems in L.A.

More fallout from the container theft problem in Los Angeles:
--------
In August, Los Angeles police officers arrested two people in Lincoln Heights carrying a pair of shiny new .22-caliber handguns. The guns were clean, as though they came right off the shelf — not at all like the ones typically found following arrests. Just days later, officers patrolling in neighboring Northeast L.A. arrested a person with a similar handgun, in the same pristine condition.A trace of the weapons revealed they came from a batch of 36 handguns reported missing as they were being shipped by train to Tennessee, Los Angeles Police Department officials said.

Sounds way to convenient to now have firearms involved with this.

I think it's more of an indication of what's shipped in containers....

I'm trying to unpack that statement.  Someone invented the story for political purposes?   Who would do that?  LAPD? Their motive?  UP? What would *their* motive be? They WANT bad publicity?

Best I can tell, this truth is convenient for no one,  except perhaps the thieves.

Facing truth is very often inconvenient.

Why shouldn't there be guns in containers.  One of our growth industries.

Couple of years ago in Chicago theives broke into cars with guns and did not touch those next to them.   Looked like they had inside information.

This is not a new problem, though Chicago seemed to be the location the media liked to report about street gangs stealing gun shipments out of rail yards and selling them on the streets.  In 2014 it was 13 AR-15 rifles, in 2015 it was 111 Ruger firearms (part of a shipment of more than 300) being shipped from New Hampshire to Spokane, WA,  etc, etc.

Funny though, maybe the idea that guns are being stolen will actually get some attention and action in LA.  There didn't seem to be too much concern over Covid Tests and Amazon shipments being pilfered.

This theft apparently happened in August of 2021.  The article says 90 containers are broken into each day.  Five months, so about 13,000 (5x30x90) containers were broken into since the theft of shotguns and hand guns.

They would be a lot better off with smash and grabs at handbag shops,  high end jewelers, and shoe stores if they were in it for the resale value of their work.

Yes, too convenient. Someone trying to put heat for the railroad and shipper to take responsibilty and properly secure the containers.

I'm surprised that firearms in the quantities mentioned are shipped by rail. Are they stolen from LTL domestic containers? Long guns can be shipped by ground service like UPS,  FedEx ground and USPS. Handguns from a distributor to a dealer go second day air. International shipments to a U.S. distributor are another matter, with containers coming from where ever to either the manufacturer's distribution center, or to a U.S. firearm distributor.
