Western Railroad Discussion > Some Mid-Week Action the BNSF Lakeside Sub--A Bit Of TractionDate: 02/02/22 15:40 Some Mid-Week Action the BNSF Lakeside Sub--A Bit Of Traction Author: Ritzville It was a cold overcast day with a few snow flakes in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Northern Transcon. The high-low was 31/15. I'm sure these temps are warm compared to Bismarck, ND. Traffic is at 23 trains since midnight with more trains on the way. Here are some trains from today and yesterday.

19. Older LA streetcar in the early 1950's. Need help on location Charlie. 20. LA MTA PCC 3075 on the P Line in downtown LA in the 1950's. Need location if possible. 21. San Francisco Muni PCC streetcars and a Mack bus at the East Bay Terminal in 1964. Date: 02/02/22 19:13 Re: Some Mid-Week Action the BNSF Lakeside Sub--A Bit Of Traction Author: cewherry Photo 19: We're on the W Line which had its western terminal where Rimpau crosses Washington Blvd,
east of La Brea Ave; easier to just say West Los Angeles. The W line cut through the heart of downtown on N. Broadway, crossed the LA River, to San Fernando Rd which it used to reach N. Figueroa thence northeast to Marmion Way which is where the photographer captured this image...whew! This private right of way ran on the north bank of the Arroyo Seco and we can see the Santa Fe's Second District main track at the extreme right, at a lower elevation---the route of today's Gold Line Light Rail. The W line continued through the west side of the now N/S running Arroyo Seco, again using N. Figueroa to its eastern terminal at Buena Vista Terrace, surely one of, if not the longest LARY route. Photo 20: (See correction below) This one is a real puzzler. Others will have to confirm, but I believe the the railfan special car is on 7th St but I'm not sure which direction it's headed. In the background we see Barker Brothers main store in LA which was at 818 W. 7th St and the Cordova Hotel is shown in the book as located at 826 W. 8th. Question is,are we looking at the rear of the Barker Bros. building and the front of the Cordova Hotel? I don't really have the answer. It does appear however, that car 3075 is the same one that eludes me from yesterday. The mystery continues: Car 3075--where are you? CORRECTION: I stated yesterday that the Barker Brothers store in downtown L.A. was at 818 W 7th St. Mr. Google provides us with a recent (February 2021) photo of, guess what; that very same building and the current owner is nice enough to include the '818' numbers to convince us, as if the exterior architectural features leave any doubt. Google also shows us the street name: S. Figueroa. Another source: Wikipedia (if we can trust it) shows the P Line cars used Broadway--not Figueroa as the route to move N/S through downtown and a look at a 1938 route map of LARY seems to confirm this. I'm open to any and all corrections on this. Therefore in Photo 20, we see car 3075, on an excursion sponsored by the Southern California Division of the Electric Railroaders Association, definitely moving southward on S. Figueroa St in Los Angeles. See:https://www.google.com/maps/@34.048143,-118.2610551,3a,51.7y,49.5h,103.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s6TEr7EgwkFSm2QnJUHtVsw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Charlie Edited 3 time(s).
