Nose of UP3986 unpatched
Author: mtierney

UP SD70M 3986, formerly SP 9811 and the second UP patch job, doesn't have a yellow patch on the nose. The big bold white-on-red "SP" is unmolested. It might still make a good photo op if caught head-on (except for those pesky new number boards).

It's been sitting out front of the Roseville shops yesterday and today.

CTE units
Author: mtierney

I've seen them occasionally, but not much in the last couple of weeks. The last CTE units I caught were 5708/5745/5746 a week ago Tuesday (5/15), and 5746 again on Saturday in the yard with non-CTE units.

Here is a Ryan Dela photo of the UP 3986 running on the Modoc Line earlier this month.

Well, it is pretty quiet out there these days, but the line is still used on the north end between Klamath Falls and Alturas. A roadswitcher out of Klamath Falls works local industries on the Modoc in the Klamath Basin as needed, generally Monday through Friday. On Sunday mornings, an Alturas Turn is called off the extra board at Klamath to make a flip to Alturas and interchange with the Lake County Railroad.
