Snow on Cajon today
Author: trainjunkie

Interesting day today on our trip over "the hill". We were expecting some rain but by the evening it got cold enough for the rain to turn into snow. It started around Oro Grande and by the time we got to East Victorville, it was really coming down, which continued all the way up and over until about MP 61 between Walker and Cajon.

Pic 1: Stopped at East Victorville as it really started to fall.

Pic 2: Last light at Lugo.

Pic 3: 5859's number boards plastered with fresh snow.

Better day to be in the warm office, retired ;-)  Even though we may get a half foot by tomorrow morning :-(  Glad to see a nice look back.

Mr. Trainjunkie, if I may ask, are you working the pool? You seem to be on the main line a lot . . . love your posts!

You would think but I paid my dues in the rain, first on a long point ride in Barstow Yard, then playing a game of "Go Find the Bell Ringer" in our 8 unit consist between Lenwood and Hodge. But yeah, once I dried out it was a comfortable ride and the scene out the window was slightly reminiscent of my time on the rails in Alaska. Slightly...no Joshua Trees in Alaska. LOL

Eljay, I mostly work the Los Angeles Conductor's Extra Board but we get a lot of Barstow trips due to the short mileage run, which leaves many trains unprotected by pool crews. Besides that, I rarely see anything on the road switchers or short turns that is worth taking a picture of, let alone posting, so it may seem that all I do is work LA to Barstow even though that isn't the case.

trainjunkie, that's a many red blocks. Was there much congestion ahead, or waiting for trains to cross over ahead of you?
Thanks for sharing these neat photos.

Yes. We were following three trains out of Barstow. Didn't get around them until San Bernardino. It made for a long trip, but it also gave me the opportunity to take the pix I got. Had we kept moving, I would have never had the opportunity to take my camera out.

Thank you trainjunkie, I was very curious with all those reds.
Sorry for the making of a long trip but worth the great photos!

The snow surprised us as well, we had snow as far down as Woodford over on Tehachapi. Wet rail and no sand almost did us in at Walong yesterday.

I enjoyed your exceptionally excellent photos, especially the one at Lugo.
That one should be a calendar shot and is one of the best winter railroading
photos I have seen in a long time.
