Western Railroad Discussion > A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of TractionDate: 04/28/22 15:49 A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction Author: Ritzville It was a coolish cloudy day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside sub on the Northern Transcon. Now for a bit of Traction and some from the Andy Goddard collection. 20. Key System C train 186 bound for San Fraqncisco at Berkeley, CA in the 1950's. Not sure on exact location. 21. San Francisco Muni PCC 1031 K Ingleside in the West Portal Dist. in 1966. Date: 04/28/22 16:37 Re: A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction Author: Ritzville 22. Pacific Electric 1706 sitting in 1950's?. Need help on location Charlie.
23. OT--More old Pacific Electric buses in the 1950's. Not sure of location. 24. OT--Trolley bus in Mexico City, not sure of the year. That's it for today. Hope everyone has a great evening and tomorrow. Thank you so much for looking! Larry Ritzville, WA Date: 04/28/22 18:26 Re: A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction Author: pedrop Great series today Larry. I also like the black Fe Trading high side gondola. Fe is the simbol of "Ferro" = iron. Beautifull logotype.
The buses are great too. Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Date: 04/28/22 19:24 Re: A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction Author: cewherry No 22: I'm 90 (maybe 85) percent sure the 1706 is sitting in the Morgan Ave Yard in Long Beach.
Maybe I'm noodling this too much but the window placement on the building we see at the extreme left doesn't seem to match those we see in photo 21 of your 04/25/22 posting. If not Morgan, then it would have to be Fairbanks--the only two places in Long Beach that would have routinely seen 'blimps'. In either case, the 1706 was MTA's renumbering of the former IER car from the Bay Area; which was scrapped in 1961, I presume after all former PE lines had been withdrawn from service. No 23 is on the site of Pacific Electric's Ocean Park carhouse, which upon abandonment of PE Venice Short Line (VSL) rail service in 1948 was, about three years later--in 1951, opened as the "Venice Bus Garage". The site continues today as a service terminal for Metro's operation. The street we see in the distance is Pacific Ave which in PE's rail days was referred to as "The Trolleyway", a grade separated right of way that connected PE's VSL with the Santa Monica via Sawtelle Line, both inherited from Los Angeles Pacific in the 'Great Merger' of 1911. Charlie Date: 04/28/22 19:45 Re: A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction Author: SCKP187 Nice photos. Once again, really good shots during the day when you get so many different foreign power units.
Brian Stevens Date: 04/28/22 21:28 Re: A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction Author: krm152 BNSF #9809 was a super nice catch. NS, CN and CP units added variety.
Definitely like Key Train #186 and PCC #1031 scenes. The four "Old Look" busses are 45 Passenger Diesel Hydraulic models. Flat windshields indicate they were built in i940 before the windshield arrangement was changed late in that year. The windshield design was then changed to the more familiar and numerous tilted design to address glare issues. Thanks for the BNSF Ritzville update and the great traction posting, especially the busses. ALLEN Date: 04/28/22 22:05 Re: A Roll Thru The Week On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction Author: Ritzville Thanks Pedro, Brian, Charlie and Allen! Thanks Charlie for all your location informatiom expertise, much appreciated. Thanks Allen for your extra interesting info on the busses.
