A certain dark level of human nature allows us all to derive some bit of fascination with scenes of devastation courtesy of Mother Nature. It’s a characteristic precious of us can avoid. I’ll try to mask my own dark fascination... In the Flood of 2011 I was extremely impressed with how the experts could accurately forecast the flood beforehand. And I was equally impressed at how quickly and how well the affected RRs built up their territory enough to deal with that coming flood. Engineering like that is to be considered absolutely heroic!

1. Flood scene at Weston, MO on July 3, 2011. This is BNSF (ex-BN, nee CB&Q) main line territory between Kansas City & St Joseph. The Weston depot is just out of frame to the left.

We were very busy at the Union Pacific Museum in Council Bluffs moving artifacts and records upstairs and or off site.  We stayed dry but it was close.

Interesting picture.  I'm impressed that nothing shorted out the circuit to the street lamp and that it is lite.

Good point! Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out where the "G" went from that crossbuck. This is a digital image so I can't blame it on my frisky Epson slide scanner. And I'm no longer involved with electronic dart leagues in which beer drinkin' is almost de rigueur. So I can't blame it on photo-editing while in a left-over stupen druncor...   ;^)

Hmmm...

The google street view shows the cross bucks painted much better now!
