Always loved the brutish nature of the SD70ACe, especially the ACS version. Thanks for posting!

Looks like the only place left for the sand hoppers is on the outside.

Nice shots Chip. And thanks for the shots. They all are great. And FYI, for those who might care, in shot 5, the facility that can be seen behind the consist is one of the Colorado Legalization of Marijuanna Farms that populate the area here abouts. Requirements are that, they are behind a fence with no way to "see" whats behind them from ground level, henceforth the barrier in the chain link. While I am a PRO Legalization of this, I do not partake. It has its medicinal value but it also has its detractors. Either way, it adds revenue to the State in the form of the License to grow, the taxes imposed, to be able to purchase in a facility that provides what is grown. Now where the proceeds go that the Tax on the product go, is not my domain of knowledge. I just know that from a first hand seat of the value of it, makes it worthwhile. Your opinion may vary. Great day out and about tho regardless of what the shots may show. Be well, Take care. Ben

That's why they put them there. The sand filters take up a LOT of space.
Of course if you've ever been to that part of the world you'd know why the sand filters are so important.
It gets everywhere! Even in places you never even knew you had.

Obviously you are one of the nay sayers. I was merely pointing out for those who perhaps may be interested in the what of the area if they have never been here. And seeing how it has become a major producer of TAX REVENUE for the State of Colorado, I thought perhaps those who live here, might be intereseted in what. Thanks for your comment. Have a great day. Ben

Taller engineers and conductors better learn to duck after they walk out of the back door of the cab!  What is that wide box up high, sticking out?  A mega-super-extreme-duty air conditioner?

Mega-super-extreme-duty air filters.

I am wondering if they really need sandboxes with so much sand in the air in saudi desert.

Turns out to be quite necessary, but only some of the time. The main issue stems from dust or sand storms which can easily foul intakes and destroy an engine in short order.

An engine may go weeks or months without encountering these conditions, but it can require a major rebuild if it doesn’t have the right equipment.

The "sand" in that part of the world is more like talcum powder, i.e. EXTREMELY fine, and salt based. Remember that millions of years earlier, that area was all covered by sea water. Thus, all that "sand" is heavily salt based, and is why Saudi Arabia must import sand for construction projects (the 'sand' from their desert simply dissolves in the high humidity near the coast, and the buildings fall down).
