Your photo No. 11 of the 2x3x3 grain train is appreciated. He was arriving at Vancouver at about 915 pm as I drove east on Highway 14 at old Fort Vancouver. I remember the configuration and the lead unit no. which I don't usually manage to do while driving. What a train! Brian Stevens Date: 06/15/22 19:42 Re: Catching up with The Week On The BNSF-NS 1065-A Bit Of Tracti Author: cewherry No 21 shows Pacific Electric freight motor 1624 at the railroad's Butte St Yard in Los Angeles. At 20 tracks, Butte St was PE largest yard
with a modest capacity of only 370 cars in 1946. At it's peak, Butte St had two yard assignments around-the-clock, one at each end of the yard. To keep congestion under control, PE relied on so-called 'hauler' assignments to periodically relieve pressure by delivering cuts of cars to Graham Yard, at 92nd St--north of Watts, for further switching and forwarding to points on the Santa Ana, Long Beach-Newport, San Pedro, El Segundo and Torrance lines. Interesting visitors from the east in this view. 1624 was part of PE's last order of freight motors and could be found throughout PE's system. It survives today at the museum at Perris. No 22: Had to really squint at the destination sign but I believe it says "J-Jefferson To Tenth Ave" which would place the 3039 at the Seville turnaround (south) end of its route. That shed at the right side seems to have been moved from previous views. Charlie Date: 06/15/22 22:17 Re: Catching up with The Week On The BNSF-NS 1065-A Bit Of Tracti Author: krm152 Ritzville Traffic
The show started strong with NS #1065 (S&A Heritage). It also included Container and TOFC traffic, Coal traffic, Grain traffic., An FRA inspection move was an added feature. Variable sky conditions were a real contributor. Historic Traction PE #1624 photo was enhanced by the B&O "Round Top" Boxcar in the background. The scene photo could be entitled "No Two Are Alikje". Thanks for another super Ritzville and Traction posting. ALLEN Date: 06/15/22 22:22 Re: Catching up with The Week On The BNSF-NS 1065-A Bit Of Tracti Author: wattslocal Hi Charlie,
I don't know where that shed came from in the baclground of the PCC photo, but -- After abandonment I paid $1 for it and us kids loaded it on a flatbed. It now sits in front of Barn 1, painted the same two colors of green as they had it. We use it to house the controller and brake handles every day of operation. After some sixty years later, I belive we made a good investment. They should make more of them for the homeless in LA, so they could ruin them. I sure enjoy your captions, it brings back memories, Ray Date: 06/15/22 23:02 Re: Catching up with The Week On The BNSF-NS 1065-A Bit Of Tracti Author: Ritzville Thanks everyone for all your interesting comments and history tidbits, always enjoyable and appreciated!
Larry Date: 06/16/22 07:09 Re: Catching up with The Week On The BNSF-NS 1065-A Bit Of Tracti Author: funnelfan It's strange with all the light power movements. I saw a 6 unit consist head west as a Hauser Yard, ID to Pasco, WA light power move after I got home from work yesterday. It was followed 5 minutes later by the Lind Turn with 3 geeps light power. The Lind came back a few hours later with a bunch of tanks from Tokio and several cars of large rip-rap from the Missile Base Ballast pit.
Ted Curphey Ontario, OR Date: 06/17/22 01:54 Re: Catching up with The Week On The BNSF-NS 1065-A Bit Of Tracti Author: GP25 That is a nice line up of Buses in the last photo.
I miss riding Flx, AMGs and the Fishbowls. They each had a nice sound and ride to them. I know a few people didn't like or care for the AMGs. Jerry Martin Los Angeles, CA Central Coast Railroad Festival Date: 06/17/22 10:08 Re: Catching up with The Week On The BNSF-NS 1065-A Bit Of Tracti Author: Ritzville Thanks guys. I've been seeing quite a few light power moves lately. I did catch that 6 unit light move. Glad you liked the variety of buses. I remember riding the San Francisco Mack buses in the 50's and 60's. They sounded strong.
