Great series Larry. I love these old style hoppers seen in picture 3. Any closer picture of them? Are they used to ballast the tracks?

I'm not sure Pedro. That's the first time to see those type cars. Maybe someone can help us out.

Pedro
No need to post a current picture for #22.  The intersection of Adeline and Market Streets in Oakland is virtually unchanged.  If you look down Market St (on the left) you can see the crossbucks at 55th St where the Key System E line headed toward the Claremont Hotel.
If you look down Adeline ( on the right) beyond the F train, it sure looks like the eastbound San Francisco Chief (with full length dome) is turning off Adeline onto Lowell St (at 47th St).  It would be just minutes into its journey to Chicago.  I won't complain if anyone disproves me!

Ritzville Traffic
Another busy day with varied traffic, foreign power, and a toasted toaster.

Historic Traction
20 & 21 First two traction scenes are absolutely awesome.
23 Three Greyhound coaches left to right are: MACK Old Look, GM PD4102, and GM Old Look.
24 Left and Center are coaches are GM PD4104, the iconic Highway Traveler.  Right coach is a Motor Coach Industries MCI (Greyhound owned) MC-5.  Interestingly, MCI powered these coaches with Detroit Deisel (GM) engines and equipped them with Allison (GM) automatic transmissions. Estimate this photo was taken 1967.

Thanks for the Ritzville update and the super terrific traction photo posting.

ALLEN

Hello Larry and all.

A couple of interesting Pacific Electric-related photos.

No 20 shows LAMTA 1519, outbound (southward) at Florence Ave; Slauson Ave had the addition of
Santa Fe's Harbor District track just off the pavement--not seen in this photo. The building at the extreme
left was an appliance dealer called "Washer Wilson" and the building, minus it's second floor remains--most
recently an Ace Hardware.

No 21 shows PE freight motors 1621-1625, I believe, moving timetable "Inbound" (compass north),
approaching--again I believe, Vernon Ave as evidenced by the oval sign hanging from the span-wire
above the first boxcar indicating a railroad crossing ahead--which would have been LARys tracks
in Vernon Ave.

A little more about these motors. As built in 1924 the 1631-class did not have the ability to operate in M-U
as seen in the photo. Not until 1945 did PE equip them with electrical equipment, from coaches purchased from
SP's Oregon & California Electric lines in 1936, storing them at Torrance until 1941 when PE converted them
to Box Motors, stripping their MU electricals for use on the 1631-class for the war effort. Until the 1951
abandonment of electric operations on PE's entire Northern District, many of these 1631-class locomotives
became fixtures on 'The North' hauling freight from Los Angeles to San Bernardino and Colton.
After 1951 the 1631's were spread throughout the remainder of PE's operations on the Western and
Southern divisions as we see in this photo which had to be taken prior to December, 1956.  If my location is correct
these motors, together, were rated for 2200 tons for the run from Watts to 8th St Yard which is most likely beyond
their destination of Butte St Yard.

Charlie

Thanks Allen and Charlie for your interesting information as always. I always feel like I'm in a PE school house look back , always learn something new.

Larry,

Glad you got the oil train with the CN power in picture #18.  Only took it 2 hours from the time I saw it to get to you.  Not bad..

Can anyone in the know shed some light on all of the light power moves?  That seems like a strange operation when crews are already stretched thin.
