Montana (Day 2) Saturday June 11th, 2022
Author: Asheville_G

After a jam packed first day in Montana we overnighted in Bozeman and set the alarm early for day 2, Saturday June 11th.

Photo #1:  BNSF #8076 east screams through the control point at East Bozeman early Saturday morning under stormy skies.

Photo #2:  BNSF #8076 snakes through one of the many s-curves on the eastbound approach to Bozeman.

Photo #3:  BNSF #8076 crests the summit at Bozeman Pass, at the EE West End signals.

After learning that there was an "ML" called at Helena, MT to come east, we headed for Lombard Canyon in an attempt to intercept them there.

Photo #4:  The "ML" sweeps around the curve at East Lombard, MT (with the abandoned Milwaukee Road pacific extension in the distance

Photo #5The "ML" rolls into Lombard Canyon.

Photo #6:  We exited the canyon and headed back east towards Bozeman to intercept the ML working Bozeman Yard.  Photo #6 is the ML passing the signals at East Bozeman.

While the ML worked Bozeman yard we headed for the summit after hearing dispatch mention that the Livingston helpers were coming all the way to Bozeman pushing a WB.

Photo #7:  MRL helpers at West End.

Photo #8:  After both trains met at West Bozeman it was time to follow the ML over the summit.  The Livingston pushers shove the ML at the summit of Bozeman (West End).

Photo #9:  After the ML arrive at the Hump switch in Livingston, a WB BNSF departed, seen here grinding up the hill between Livingston and Muir.

We elected to head east to Helena to spend the night.  We had heard that the previous days "LM" was called at 1500 to head over Mullan Pass, and the weather seemed to be improving.  We rolled the dice and went to Tobin.

Photo #10:  The "LM" starts it's climb up Mullan Pass at Tobin.

Photo #11:  Drone shot of the "LM" near Austin.

Photo #12:  Drone shot of the "LM" crossing Skyline trestle.

Thanks for taking at look at "Day 2".
