Trona Pinnacles, Ca. 7/1/22.
Author: SPgoletablock

- On an afternoon that you could hear a pin drop is briefly interrupted by the heavy whine of dynamic brakes. Pushing against the venerable EMD's is the second cut of loaded coal buckets bound for Trona (Searles Valley Minerals). Earlier in the day the WB turn brought an empty coal train up to Searles Junction to interchange empties for loads with the UP. As is standard practrice with the TRC its to leave 3 of the 6 engines at the junction, run half the loads to Trona and then 'van' in their case Ford F150 back to Searles Junction and repeat.

Hello all Trona Railroad (as it was formerly known) fans,

When I was growing up at China Lake (now "Ridgecrest") our basketball team played Trona, When we played Barstow, the
return schoolbus stopped at Searles to let a player off.

In those days the train was led by 2 green steam engines -- quite a hot job.  The crew pulled to the Southern Pacific station
at Searles.  In those days the rails ran from Searles  to Owenyo near Lone Pine.

Some evenings I drove to Trona to play bridge.

Anyone else watching these postings?
