First time out in Sun
Author: ns2557

Well, not the 08-0900 time frame they originally figured on, but within an hour or so. The RGX/CRRX/Royal Gorge Santa Express unit, CRRX SD40-2 602 got out of it's cocoon and hit sunlight for the first time today. Just a few employees around plus the painters and myself. Not sure what is in store next for this one. Still needs some major mechanical work before they can put on the train. November time frame is what I was told possibly for that to happen. But here it is outside shop on 11th St in Canon City Co. Plan on going back down to shops a little later this afternoon after sun moves over to a more front friendly side. The 3rd shot is the 2 gent's who did the painting, Bill to the left and Rob to the right. They were Hot Rod painters who branched over to painting railroad equipment. They call themselves, "Loco Customs, Painting Specialists" Their next project here at RGX is the rebuilt ex SP Baggage that is now a generator car, to be painted like the majority of the RGX Equipment Orange, silver, black and then the caboose that came with the units. Something colorful for the train, should be "bright".  Thanks for looking, be well all. Ben        (Shots at Canon City Co 08-01-2022)
