. McAlester, OK became a stop on the MKT railroad in 1870 and soon established a yard to serve the numerous branch lines serving the coal mines in the area. After 118 years this became the Union Pacific and also a crew change point on the line to Texas. One afternoon I drove by the South end of the yard along "A" street, turned at Monroe crossing and happened upon these 2 southbound trains with the then new wings on the nose in good light and stopped for a few photos. Now I like the wings scheme better than any of the other paint jobs the UP has tried and with the announcement of the latest change that eliminates the wings I am glad to have gotten some of them before they fade away. As I was getting ready to leave a horn in the distance announced the arrival of another train and I of course stayed to see what it would be. Turned out to be a northbound hopper train of empty coal buckets pulling in on the main for a crew change. I got excited to see yet another set of wings as they lined up for a 1-2-3 triple play off "A" street.
