Western Railroad Discussion > Spending My Day Off Shooting Photos On The UPDate: 08/13/22 12:58 Spending My Day Off Shooting Photos On The UP Author: mojaveflyer I woke up early Friday morning and decided to take advantage of the nice weather to do some photography....
Photo #1- First stop of the day was in Eaton, just north of Greeley, where I found this SW-1500 switching a frac sand plant. I'd never seen this unit before.... A nice surprise! Photo #2- Next stop was the Carr siding, where I found this train sitting in the siding. I thought it was odd he was sitting here with his headlights on until I spotted a track inspector pull up by the grade crossing. I thought we were going to have a meet and in a few minutes I heard a southbound call Carr siding. Photo #3- UP 7829 crosses the north switch of Carr as it gets a roll by from the head end of UP 4806. More photos in several more parts.... Photo #4- Next stop was Speer outside of Cheyenne. While waiting for the UP 4806 to come north I noticed the westbound signal for Track #3 was green. Soon this drag came around the corner and slowly ground by me. Photo #5- The westbound came by slowly grinding up the hill. Photo #6- While watching the first train in the distance making it's way west I noticed the westbound signal went to yellow and then flashing yellow as the next manifest made it's way west. More Part III. James Nelson Thornton, CO www.flickr.com/mojaveflyer Date: 08/13/22 13:14 Re: Spending My Day Off Shooting Photos On The UP Part II Author: mojaveflyer More from my day off on the UP.
Photo #7- While watching the first train in the distance making it's way west I noticed the westbound signal went to yellow and then flashing yellow as the next manifest made it's way west. Photo #8- As the mid train power went by I saw UP 4806 pop over the hill and make it's way to the junction at East Speer and head down the hill towards Cheyenne. Photo #9- After some lunch in Cheyenne I headed north of Cheyenne to tour a Missile Alert Facility that has been turned into a Wyoming State Park. Most interesting tour! I then headed east from Cheyenne and found the UP 5313 stopped on the main at Egbert. Egbert is where the Yoder Branch heads north. Apparently the UP 5313 had run out of time to work and were waiting for a relief crew. While waiting, the dispatcher ran this hot "Z" train around him and another slower train around the train on Main #1. One more to follow.... Missed him by 10 minutes.... Skunked twice in Pine Bluff! I missed the westbound train and the A & W was closed so I couldn't get a root beer float to cool off....
A long day but fun.... Thanks for looking! James Nelson Thornton, CO www.flickr.com/mojaveflyer Date: 08/13/22 14:22 Re: Spending My Day Off Shooting Photos On The UP Part II Author: 3rdswitch Great bunch. Too bad about the A&W.

Date: 08/15/22 10:49 Re: Spending My Day Off Shooting Photos On The UP Part II Author: mojaveflyer Thanks for the kind words! Everything was shot with a Canon 5D MkII, 100 - 400mm lens. I processed the photos through Photoshop Elements 2020 and then took the finished photos through DeNoise AI. I bought the DeNoise a month ago and think it made a made different in my photos.
