Western Railroad Discussion > Flange squeal questionDate: 08/17/22 20:00 Flange squeal question Author: tomstp I have noticed that well cars for hauling containers have a lot of flange squealing on straight track in Big Sandy Tx where as other cars on the same track only rarely put out a squeel. Anyone know why?

Anyone know why? Possibly lack of lubrication at the truck center-plate bearing causing the truck(s) to 'crab' with resultant flange squeal. They can also cause heavy gauge widening forces on curves up to and including low rail turnover. The worst examples I have seen are the middle trucks on articulated cars. Date: 08/18/22 19:08 Re: Flange squeel crestion Author: tomstp Thanks.
