NKP 324 ready to depart Portland OR
Author: asheldrake

On August 20th the NKP 324, a RSD 5 I believe, was moved out to the Oregon Pacific Railroad interchange track awaiting the rail move from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center to Utah.

Thanks for posting. Heading to Utah? I believe it is a former Utah Railway engine. Thanks again.

Arlen,
Is the other Nickel Plate diesel locomotive still at the ORHC property?  The ORHC website does not mention it.

You mean the 190?  She is still there, but kept inside most of the time.  The track she was often seen on is being modified for the turntables install.

Ron......excellent point....our ORHF web site is pretty bad at hyping our exhbitis including the rolling stock.....the PA, the RSD-5, etc fine exhibits....not to mention some of our rail cars.    we could/should do better.    Arlen

Sad to see it go, I hope the Utah railway museum takes better care of it than it does the rest of their equipment!  Lots of stuff exposed to the elements and vandals there :^(

Also, I hope it doesn't get tagged tonight.  Do they have security?

Not being in the loop, why is the RSD5 moving to Utah? Thanks for any answers but just curious.

Arlen, No criticism from me.  I remember Doyle's strong commitment to that project.  Mostly, I was concerned that the ALCO found a new home.
Thank you,
Ron

Odd seeing a RSD5 coupled to a modern piece of rolling stock.
Interesting post and information.

I just hope it's going someplace that will actually take care of it and not let it simply rust away; too many museums get equipment but don't maintain it.

Ogden is getting that ex-WP GP35 that supposedly will be repainted, add the RSD5 and they ran out
of roofed space some time ago. It's nice collection, needs a better home.

As of today, August 27th, the 324 and refrigerator car continue to wait at the OPR interchange track outside of the Oregon Rail Heritage Center....only some 7 days since my posting that the 324 was ready for pickup......Arlen
