A few views from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center yesterday…
Author: MrMRL

Nice day in Portland, OR yesterday. Among other things, time was taken to visit the ORHC to visit some of the pieces on display...

1. SP 4449
2. NKP 190
3. UP 96 outside w/ SP heater car and local light rail.

It is good to see old UP96 still working.
Wegot plenty of work done out of it when it was here in Cheyenne.

Good stuff, Robbie, thanks for posting.  I believe the heater car is ex-SP&S and was painted to match the 4449.  I can be corrected on that.

the steam heater car is used at ORHC to start our steam locos.......I like to tell our visitors "one doesn't wake old guys or old steel quickly".   the 96 is the ORHC switcher and is really appreciated..  ORHC is open today.     Arlen

I suppose it's just my depraved appetite speaking, but I've always thought the ALCO PA locomotives were the sexiest things on wheels.

I wish their ALCO PA  had been restored to its original Santa Fe Warbonnet colors. Those 4 PA's sent to Mexico, just got the hell beaten out of them, with wrecks and no preservation efforts.

2 of them are preserved and were pretty much in running condition when put away.

Is the 4449 still operable or is it "stuffed and mounted"?

Jack....I understand that the "little boy" will lose both its applied name and number when repainted.......thus removing this visitor question.

as to the 4449 being operational.....the poster much have missed the charter posting a few weeks ago.     Arlen

Another question - what do the letters and numbers under "700" on the side of the SP&S 700's cab mean?
