Sorry Joe, this ain't Amtrak.

This is the big league and we're at the final table.

You're going to have to do a little better than that if you want to make a difference.

Depend on Congress to settle this?  Let's compare their work rules with the TE&Y staffs.

I'd settle for just their health insurance...

Amen.

Their pension isn't bad, either.  The members of Congress age 62 and above vest their full pension benefits with just 5 years of service. That's a lot different than Railroad Retirement. Younger members of Congress vest with 20 and 25 years of service, but earn a partial pension with just five years.

I think, not sure, the zillions of staffers get the same sweet deal.

I'd like to see the entire Federal Government, possible exception of Defense, put on Social Security and Medicare.  That might incentivize Congress to pay more attention to those.  It would also add to the contributing pool.

Let's have them make a meaningful HOS law. When you tie up, you know when you're going to work. things happen, so make that within two hours. Two days off in seven. that's off, not subject to call. That's 48 hours undisturbed rest upon completion of a trip the day before rest day...at the home terminal.

I have always maintained that railroading requires the employee to be 100% present. "Minor" illness, family trouble, and such make one too distracted. The ability to lay off a certain number of hours or days per month, for example, should be part of the HOS law.

I've talked about the Euro 6 month fixed schedules which are impossble here, amazing how it's possible there and
not possible here. Guess the complete lack of planning and coherent HOS policy makes a lot of things impossible.

If they're counting on the Biden Admin to settle anything, they'll be sadly disappointed.  Biden lied to the oil pipeline unions 3 days before the elections, then turned around and did the exact opposite of what he promised.  They haven't forgotten.

Completely unrelated.

Railroad unions are quite different than these "oil pipeline unions" you mentioned.

And, of course, the RLA makes a night and day difference as well.

Plus don't forget they can double dip..triple dip.. Most of them have pensions from cities, states, federal government etc. Without losing a dime or having to pay back 1 dollar for every 2 earned.. Plus lifetime healthcare etc..

This makes so much sense that if any Company Leaders read it, you may well find yourself
the target of goons hired by certain carriers to persuade you not to publish such logic.

If any railroad managers are suspected of agreeing with you, they are out the door.
