PEB TA - who got paid and how much?
Author: Chessie

Just saw a timeline from SMART-TD regarding the review and ratification process for the tentative agreement.  The ratification process closes just after the November midterms.  "How convenient", as they used to say on Saturday Night Live.  This stinks to high heaven.

It potentionally would put a congressional vote in a better time frame.  Right now, no one running for reelection wants to be blamed for a worsening economy.  Both sides will blame the other on how they vote so there is no inducement for a politician to go out on a limb to add things to better or worsen (depending on party) a potential contract. The easiest thing before the election would be to impose whatever the last proposal would be.

After the election, the politicians won't care as much.  Both sides can then try to add things and then blame the other for holding up an agreement.  It's even possible the current make up of congress might allow something a little better.  The economy will still be bad, but angry voters won't be able to do anything about it for a couple of years.

Either way, we are just pawns between two factions, neither of which really cares about us despite what they both say.

The absence of a labor political party or two in the US is a distinct difference from European and some Asian countries.

57A26, you make a good point.  Those outgoing can vote without ramification, and the rest will have almost two years for the public to be distracted by the next crisis be it real or manufactured.
