A shame. This shouldn't happen to a classic geep!
Author: slacks

This abomination of a GP-9 spent many yrs at the ADM plant at Clinton IA. I only once clicked the shutter on this plug ugly and this is it. The only thing I can say is the engineer had good forward vis, but it was used in remote most of the time.

A nice spot for your Weber Kettle and a Chase lounge.

Your post reminded me of this poor CR RS3m I shot stored at Harrisburg,PA. back on 2/21/83. In more ways than one, it was no way to treat an ex-NH RS3 !

I would ask, what were they thinking, but obviously they weren't.
I've seen lots of diesels and pictures of diesels but I never saw either of those!

Were the amputations due to disease or trauma?

I'd almost forgotten about the Conrail RS3m's like the 9950. Weren't there a few others that received this treatment? Looks like it would be a little light in the pants traction wise after such an alteration.

Only the 9950 in this version. The 9951 got a low short nose. After that no noseectomies were done. 9950 was the first PC RS3m. ------ Ken

Here is the Chopnosed CR RS3m 9951 in storage at Enola,PA. on 8/21/83. Originally NYC RS3 8230 blt.5-52 and rebuilt to an RS3m and chopped by PC at Juniata Shops in July 1973. CP also had an RS3 8444 that was similar. Check out Roadjob's post from 9/29 in Nostalgia & History. He has a great shot of it inside the Shops at Winnipeg. Can't forget those D&H RS3u 500s rebuilt and chopped by MK. At least they got 251s instead of 567s.

The crew asked for better visability from the cab and the shop gave it to them. When you have zero budget this is what you get.
