Long Manifest Rounds Allard's Horseshoe Curve
Author: spsniper

I took a trip this past weekend up to Tehachapi with my dad and our good friend SpGoletaBlock. Its been a while since I've been out train watching, but was excited to finally get up there since I added the drone to my arsenal. This shot was one I was especially looking forward to getting as Allard's horshoe curve is challenging to document with all of the private property around. Once we saw this huge 3x2x2 BNSF Manifest climbing the grades at Caliente we bolted up to Bealville to get a little closer so it wasn't so long of a flight. I watched as it exited tunnel 2 and zig zagged through the s-curves finally making its way to me as I snapped one of my favorite "birds eye" shots to date.

Nice one.  Tehachapi can really be opened up using drones.

Up until now the best bird's eye views were aircraft or looking at the La Mesa Club's HO layout at San Diego.
This is a wonderful image, thanks for sharing.
I walked Cable to Caliente when I was first assigned that territory in 1978, spread out over four weeks and always downhill.
Too many trains to make a detailed inspection from track cars.

Sweet shot! Mark my words, I will drag you up there one of these days. You are way too young and athletic to not see those views in person. Fun weekend!

Yep, that's a dandy!  I like how you can see down into the valley in the distance.

Looks like maybe 90 cars -- surprised they
gave it two DPUs.

Is the eastbound cross over still there? Hard to see in this photo.

Best drone shot I've seen of the horseshoe curve.  As Bill already said, drones can really open up many panoramic aerial possibilities.  Thanks for sharing.
