Crooked River Bridge on Oregon Trunk: Color?

I enjoyed the aerial view view on the earlier thread by Bill Meeker.
I have visited the bridge twice, and seen many other photos, they are all of a black painted bridge IIRC.
Was the bridge ever painted Silver?

Here's a couple of simple web searches, the Google copy of the Railway Gazette should be on pg 394, it looks black in their photos.

I only go back to 1983 for photos, but it was black then.

The bridge has always been black, the paint has faded enough to make much of it look gray.

Thank you for the affirmation of it being (various shades of ) black.
That is all I could find in books or on the web.
