The original bridge will now get some much needed refurbishment, including replacing all the remaining original spans. The Sandpoint depot will get reconfigured to have two main tracks as well.

So the article talks about BN consolidating traffic from two former lines 50 years ago.  Where did the other line go?  Was this bridge NP or GN?

The bridge route is former Northern Pacific.
The former Great Northern mainline was abandoned
from Newport, Washington to Dean, Washington.

As noted, the GN line was partly abandond.  The  POVA (Pend Oreille Valley7) has the eastern end from Dover, where the Union Pacific split off toward Spokane, to Newprot, Washington and the branch up to Metaline Falls.

Where is/was Dean, WA?  I could not find a reference to it anywhere.

Presumably somewhere between Newport and Hillyard.
