Tier 4 ACE leads a loaded coal train through Scofield Utah.

Pictures taken back in early August. This train had just finished loading at the Skyline Mine, the only operating mine in Utah that ships out via rail. All the other mines truck it to Wellington and it is loaded on trains there. At present the coal market is pretty tight since the Lila Canyon Mine is out of service long-term, potentially permanently. There aren't any mines that could be easily reopened, most are not producing high enough quality coal and reopening Crandall Canyon would be digging in a graveyard. Coal will loosen up in 2025 when the Intermountain Power Plant closes it's coal units, Hunter and Huntington plants will likely close early as Pacificorp shifts to cheaper renewable energy. Neat to see these while they are still around, because their days are numbered.

Nice images.  Only went out to Scofield once, but no train.  Sure is a pretty run.
