Western Railroad Discussion > Big GEs that Bumped the EMD Hood UnitsDate: 11/28/22 16:21 Big GEs that Bumped the EMD Hood Units Author: spider1319 The A&C interchange train crosses OX Wash Bridge and heads for exchange of trains with the BNSF Phoenix Local at Castle Hot Springs. As reported earlier the A&C emblems have not yet been applied. This was my first photo attempt of the A&C since the new power took over. After numerous visits dating back to startup I expect far fewer visits in the future.I have been well aquainted with the GEs while on BNSF and I much prefer the EMDs as both a rail fan and a railroader. The paint job is cool though. The image was recorded last week.Bill Webb.

So, are these 25 year old GE units gonna hold together equally or better than their 45 year old EMD counterparts? I guess time will tell... ~ Mr. MRL Date: 11/28/22 20:11 Re: Big GEs that Bumped the EMD Hood Units Author: 3rdswitch Nice catch. Yes, quite the letdown after twelve years of excellent green and cream. The decals will be an improvement though.

those "almost wet" green and creme units, man does time fly! Out Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/28/22 21:56 by callum_out. They have been in service like that for about 6 months now. Heck, there are B32s on a G&W shortline somewhere else (Georgia Central, I think) that have not had the logos applied and have been running for a few years

It's possible you saw early photos of them, because logos were applied to all of the ex NS B32-8s within about 6 months of their arrival, some faster than others. Here's a shot I took of the B32-8s not too long after their arrival-- https://www.flickr.com/photos/133436477@N08/51989482029/in/dateposted-public/ Mike Derrick Posted from Android Date: 11/29/22 04:50 Re: Big GEs that Bumped the EMD Hood Units Author: ShortlinesUSA MrMRL Wrote:

They've blown 3 turbos in the past year alone. G&W does little more than give the units they acquire a coat of paint. The SD40-2s and GP38-2s acquired in recent years were beat when they showed up on the property, and for the roads that do heavy-haul mainline running that require the throttle to go beyond notch 3, it doesn't take long for the age and lack of a true rebuild to show.
