The SW1001 started out as a special low clearance model for industrial customers like the steel industries.
EMD decided there wasn't a need for both models so they kept the one that had more sales. Basically the guts of an SW1000 on a modified frame with a SW1200 cab to keep a low profile. Date: 11/29/22 16:14 Re: Newish SW1001 through Tyler yesterday Author: Roadmaster GMTX 94 was built for Dow Chemical as their 1002 in December 1980, part of an order for 3 SW1001's. It received a new long hood recently. That long hood belonged to KCS SW1500 4399, which had been retired after a wreck that occurred, I think, in 2013.
