Western Railroad Discussion > Newish SW1001 through Tyler yesterdayDate: 11/29/22 06:28 Newish SW1001 through Tyler yesterday Author: WrongWayMurphy This came through Tyler, Tex yesterday evening at Cons Corner on the ex Cotton Belt (UP Corsicana Sub).
Looks like a combo new/old switcher. I was told by Trainorders.com member SSW it is a SW1001. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/29/22 06:35 by WrongWayMurphy. Date: 11/29/22 11:09 Re: Newish SW1001 through Tyler yesterday Author: PHall The SW1001 replaced the SW1000 in the EMD catalog. The SW1001 started out as a special low clearance model for industrial customers like the steel industries.
EMD decided there wasn't a need for both models so they kept the one that had more sales. Basically the guts of an SW1000 on a modified frame with a SW1200 cab to keep a low profile. It received a new long hood recently. That long hood belonged to KCS SW1500 4399, which had been retired after a wreck that occurred, I think, in 2013.
